Rock Island State Park - Twin Falls Part 1 - Hiking

If you want to see an incredible waterfall with little effort, Twin Falls is your place! You can walk right down a staircase from the parking lot or a short kayak (only at certain times of the year) from the beach and you get to look at this beauty! In Part 1 we will just cover your walk down to Twin Falls from the parking area.

Rock Island has some fantastic trails but today we are just covering Twin Falls. Let's start with the drive in toward Twin Falls, to be honest, it looks like you're going down a road just for the houses off of it and it is kind of confusing if it's your first time. The road you take back to the waterfall is called Power House Rd in Walling TN. It's long, winds around and like I said above...looks like you're lost! There will be a big sign to the left when you enter the State Park area.

There are two parking lots, one to park and enjoy the area and also an area with a few 15-minute parking spots. The staircase from the 15-minute parking lot leads right to the bottom but you can see Twin Falls from the top.

Sometimes the water will be high (summer pool or after a heavy rain it can rage if they are spilling from the dam). You won't be able to see or walk on the rocks below. Pay special attention to the sign on the bridge to the left and the sirens. When lights are blinking and the siren is going off; stay away from the rocks and stay at a safe distance.

During this time of the year (Fall/Winter) water levels for the lake (Center Hill Lake) are at winter pool. We were able to walk out on the rocks for some beautiful pictures at the bottom. The path for the walk down to the bottom (Rocky Part) and on the rocks at the bottom is difficult but very short so take your time and don't hurt yourself. The path to the rocky part from the bottom of the staircase is easy though. Pay attention to where you're stepping (shout out to my clumsy friends who manage to trip over their own feet). When you walk down the main staircase by the 15-minute parking, the path to this is to the right that leads here.

You can check out active alerts and important information from the state park website including water release schedules and everything Rock Island. See the link below and know before you go:

Above are some examples of what to expect if you want to see Twin Falls from the bottom. Below are the area rules which will be important to know for your safety:

Now you can just enjoy that view!

Remember not to cross the water to the falls, you will get in trouble as you aren't supposed to be there and you could be risking your life. Bring a lunch and enjoy it in front of an amazing view! You may even happen to catch one of the Jackson family/their friends practicing their crazy incredible kayaking skills in the rough waters just below the waterfall, depending on what time of year you go of course. Pretty fantastic to see!

The Twin Falls walk from the parking lot is family friendly for all ages and a must see if you are visiting the area!

Help us protect and preserve our natural areas by leaving no trace, picking up trash you see and respecting the rules/wildlife.
